AERONAUTICAL INDUSTRY
From realism to photo realism
The human eye is an incredible
machine. It’s capable of almost instantaneously judging the
authenticity of an image. In other words, when shown an image, the
spectator is more often than not able to immediately recognize whether
they’re looking at a reproduction or a photo.
If it’s so hard to fool the human eye, it’s because
the real world in which we live, our daily environment, is infinitely
complex. It is the art of deciphering and reproducing this
minute level of detail that will allow a 3D image to go from realism
to photo-realism.

If
the margin separating these two worlds seems slim, the necessary
effort to cross it is enormous.
In order to claim photo-realism, one must use extremely
detailed models with textures developed to reproduce them right
down to their subconscious details, those details so fine that they
are only “seen” by the spectator’s subconscious.
To this, one must add coherent lighting and use
render applications capable of reproducing light diffusion in a
realistic way.
Many other factors need to be taken
into account as well, and when all these elements are brought together,
the 3D image becomes a photo, the virtual object becomes reality,
the prototype comes to life, impossible to tell the real from the
reproduction.
