"THE BIG FAMILY"
A meerkat story...

“The Big Family” is a short film using photo-realistic 3D animation.

This ongoing project brings to the screen a herd of elephants and a pack of meerkats (small African mammal) in a decor typical of central Africa.

The main challenge of this film is to render the animation and the rendering realistic.

Animating foor-footed animals is a very delicate business which requires a perfect understanding of the animals’ physiology.

The photo-realistic rendering is obtained thanks to the particular care brought to the textures for the characters and décor, as well as to the lighting and scene compositing.

Some customized development was needed in order to attain the present level of render quality for the meerkats' fur.
